Are there a few cartoons you really like? Send them numbers of some of the ones you think are dumb too.
The cartoons here are produced in-house (meaning, I do them--I don't farm out the task to a 3rd-party professional, but I'm sure you can guess that). Their theme: there isn't just one theme. Featured are various creatures, people, ghosts, plants, and even planets (collectively, these are all varmints). Not every creature is fully developed or every idea thought through. I'm glad for this because that allows room for changes and new ideas, thereby hopefully avoiding cliches or too much variation on a theme.
The reason for the cartoons: I think some of the best, happiest moments I ever have are those times where I hang out at certain bookstores and read the cartoon books in the humor section. I can read the books for hours, and be glad later that I wasted that part of the day. Doing such has made me want to be a cartoonist (or at least try). I suppose I could spend my time doing something more valuable for society in the few hours a week I spend coming up with the weekly cartoons, but then I would feel I had really wasted my time. True, I don't always pull cartooning off. I can't even look at a few of the ones I did up there without cringing. I hope they make you cringe and feel embarrassed for me. That's the fun in life: seeing people truly screw up. It's much more fun than seeing some comedian botch something professionally, because s/he's not really failing--it's part of the gag. Yet, I think you would not be happy never to see a good cartoon once in a while. I hope you think a few of them are good.
